Jim Mochnacz Somerset County Councillor for Street

Jim Mochnacz

I don't mind talking rubbish. And composting. And especially recycling. Waste is my special responsibility at Somerset County Council. I am delighted that Somerset is one of the top three counties for recycling and has won the national 'Five Green Apples' award.

I'm an active Trustee of Street Self Help Centre, which continues with its 21 year history of helping local people help themselves.

Street is safer - with local police like PC Roy Strong, Sgt. Nick Eckland and Police Community Support Officer Kristy Blakewell. I serve on the Avon and Somerset Police Authority and work closely with our award winning Street Neighbourhood Watch.

It's hard work, but I really enjoy it.

If re-elected I will continue to work in two key areas.

Firstly for a Somerset-wide Crime Reduction strategy to make all our lives feel and actually be safer and secondly for the Somerset Waste Partnership to minimize waste going to landfill by promoting the Wake Up to Waste campaign.

In Street we have successfully achieved the difficult goal of both reducing crime and achieving some of the highest detection rates in Somerset, due to the excellent working relationships we now have between various community groups and the local police.

My next goal is to actively promote a sensible drinking culture for local residents and visitors. We all need to feel as safe on our streets at night time as day.

I need your support to continue this work. Thank you.
