Call to declare a Climate Emergency

Scientists have been warning us for decades that Climate Change is the greatest threat to humanity for thousands of years. The IPCC Report said that holding the global temperature rise below 1.5 degrees will require "rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society". Yet nothing seems to be happening, it's business as usual locally and nationally.

The need to combat the continuing emission of greenhouse gases and global warming overshadows every other issue.

Our Councils are well-placed to help tackle this Climate Emergency.

That's why Tessa has proposed a motion to Full Council at Somerset County Council's meeting on Wednesday 20th February 2019. You can read the full text here: Climate Emergency Motion
