Wells Liberal Democrats have selected local residents Caroline McKinnell and Tom Ronan as their candidates in the upcoming by-election in St Thomas' ward in Wells. Caroline is standing for the City, Tom for Mendip.
Here's what you need to know about them...
Caroline lives in St Thomas' ward in Wells with her husband Derek, their 3 teenagers and too many dogs, cats, ducks and hens! She runs her own business and you may have seen her around and about in her car. Over the last 3 years she has worked with hundreds of Wells residents. Helping others is what she is all about: she used to be a teacher, then part of the pastoral/safeguarding team and she's also done a stint as Safeguarding Officer for Wells Rugby Club.
Tom also lives in St Thomas' ward and runs his own business. He led the push to make Wells a 'Plastic Free' City (England's second) and thinks that still more needs to be done to tackle all our waste. He believes that as a City, Wells needs to recycle more, to have separate street bins for glass, paper etc. He's happy to work alongside anyone who wants to make improvements to the lives of the residents of Wells.
Tessa Munt, County Councillor for Wells, commenting on the selection said, “I can’t think of a better team to make sure Wells is in good hands and voices of local residents are heard loudly and clearly.”
