October Open Forum - POWER TO YOUR PARISH

1. With the declaration of Climate Emergencies in Councils across Somerset, we know we must do everything we can to halt the damage and reduce our carbon emissions. Phil Stone, a local landscape architect who previously worked in Somerset County Council's Countryside Team has drafted an 'off the shelf' Parish Tree Policy for use locally, and will introduce and explain his ideas on what we can do at Parish level.

2. 'Community Payback' is a non-custodial sentencing option available to judges and magistrates which benefits the whole community and could help your Parish Council get useful tasks done at minimal cost. Pete Mellen, Community Payback Supervisor for the local programme and Denise Boulton, a local Parish Clerk who has used the project in her communities will explain how it works and what can be done.

3. Anna Francis is Resilience Manager at Frome Town Council and will speak about how resilience, energy and transport issues are being approached to create a clean, healthy future for the residents of Frome.

4. Martock in South Somerset is well-known for having a proactive and forward thinking Parish Council with a wide range of community facilities, assets and ideas about replacing lost local services. Adam Persson, Martock's Parish Clerk and Neil Bloomfield, Parish Council Chair will talk about their Parish projects.

These 'to the point' briefings may be of interest to you if you are a Parish, Town, District or County Councillor or living locally and you'd like to hear more about what can be done by your local Councillors on your behalf!

The meeting will be hosted by the local Lib Dems, but you don’t need to be a member or supporter to come - everyone is welcome. There is no cost, but we’d encourage you to buy a hot or cold drink at the bar and bring it into the meeting.

Please RSVP below so we have an idea of numbers.
