Many residents of Glastonbury have been concerned throughout the summer of 2019 about the numbers of people living in vans and caravans on the roads and green spaces of the town. At the same time, many people have expressed their support for those who are living in accommodation that is not standard “bricks & mortar”.
So what progress is being made to resolve these issues?
A former town and district councillor for Burnham-On-Sea has passed away this week following a battle with cancer.
Cllr Katie Lawson, 50, passed away peacefully on Wednesday 17th July in Weston Hospice in the presence of her family.
Jane Lock, Somerset County Council’s Leader of the Opposition, has weighed into the debate following the Panorama programme on Somerset’s social care crisis by describing the situation as “one created nationally by the Government but made far worse by short-sighted thinking at a local level”.
22 Liberal Democrat Councillors – 17 of whom are new to the Council – all raring to get started with important Council work.
The local elections on May 2nd saw an increase of 11 councillors representing the Liberal Democrats at Mendip District Council.

Liberal Democrat success last Thursday saw our number increase by 700% on Sedgemoor District Council. Bill Revans, previously sole Liberal Democrat at Sedgemoor, is now joined by 6 Lib Dem colleagues.

Our team is truly representative of the communities in which we all live. 20 of our 42 Mendip and Sedgemoor Council candidates are female, 6 are under the age of 32, and reflect diverse backgrounds and lifestyles.

SEDGEMOOR NEEDS A SHAKE UP!
On the 2nd of May, the residents of Burnham and Highbridge will have the chance to elect new town councillors.
A motion drawn up by Tessa Munt, County Councillor for Wells and former Lib Dem MP, to declare a Climate Emergency was passed by Somerset County Council yesterday.
